leading communion

Let me tell you a little bit about my ministry experience. I’m ordained in the Reformed Church in America. I’ve pastored in a church, county jail, and I’ve run a program in an urban community center. You can read more about these below.

I studied spiritual direction in the Certificate in the Art of Spiritual Direction program at San Francisco Theological Seminary. This program provided me with valuable skills and insights into guiding others on their spiritual journeys.

Spiritual Direction
Associate Pastor

I was an associate pastor at City Church San Francisco for five years. In this open and affirming church, I created opportunities for congregants to serve, supported volunteer leaders, and maintained relationships with local non-profits. I also organized the care team that served the needs of congregants, I facilitated support groups, and I was on rotation to preach and lead worship.

For seven years, I served with a team of people leading worship services in the San Francisco County Jail. Through this experience, I learned the importance of providing spiritual support to those who may be struggling. It was a humbling and rewarding opportunity to connect with individuals in need of hope.

Melisa leading event

I worked at the City Hope Community Center in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. I ran a weekly event for five years that included hosting 100 local participants, planning and executing a dinner service, and providing entertainment, such as trivia night, karaoke night, party games (i.e. Pictionary, two truths and a lie, etc.), and bingo. Additionally, I collaborated with local businesses and organizations to secure donations for the weekly events, ensuring that we had meaningful prizes to provide a memorable experience for our participants.

For three years I worked as part of a volunteer team for the Reformed Church in America’s Commission For Women. The RCA Commission for Women provides resources for developing awareness around issues pertaining to women; provides information for leadership appointments; assists the church toward ensuring inclusive attitudes, images, and language in all published materials; works for systemic change to enable the full participation of women in church and society.
